School counselors provide counseling programs in three domains: academic, career, and social/emotional. An effective counseling program is implemented for all students through a variety of methods. Counselors work with students through classroom lessons, small groups, and on an individual level. Their services and programs help students resolve emotional, social, or behavioral problems and help them develop a clearer focus or sense of direction. Effective counseling programs are important to the school climate and a crucial element in improving student achievement. A comprehensive counseling program is not about what I do as a counselor but about how my students are supported because of what I do.
